August 2006 iPod playlist

I had been putting my playlists on my other blog, but I don't remember the reasoning behind that, and now I'm thinking, why send my kind readers elsewhere, if they want to know the monthly Maitresse soundtrack? Why not just put it right here?

So, back where it belongs! Here's what I'm listening to this month.

1. The Songs That We Sing (Charlotte Gainsbourg)*
2. La meme histoire (Feist)
3. Poupée de cire, poupée de son (France Gall)**
4. Home (Jane Birkin)
5. Is It Any Wonder? (Keane)
6. I Will Follow You Into the Dark (Death Cab For Cutie)***
7. This Temporary Life (Death Cab For Cutie)
8. Wash Away (Joe Purdy)
9. Paris je t'aime (Elisabeth Anais)****
10. David (Nelly McKay)
11. Ruby Blue (Roisin Murphy)
12. Happy Together (covered by Leningrad Cowboys)*****

*waiting impatiently for CG to release her new album, on which she collaborated with Air and Pulp
**my new karaoke song, just waiting to be unleashed on the world
***would have loved to hear Pam's ukelele rendition
****ok I confess to raiding the "Paris je t'aime" soundtrack
*****this kickass morceau is all Nicolas, from the first "Paris Derniere" CD

I've just started to love Death Cab for Cutie (way behind the times), but right now Plans just makes me cry too much to deal with. I must share, though, that my favorite Paris Derniere soundtrack moment is the cover of 'Hey ya' by, umm, je sais pas qui. It's wonderful for slow-motion dance parties, if that's your cup of tea.
ps- Lyon is a GHOST town right now, and silly me for trying to get things done, like renew my carte de sejour, on a day when the whole wide world is obviously fairing le pont, since tomorrow's a holiday.

Hooray for the return of the playlist (and thanks for your email!!)... will have to order mine-self a copy of the "Paris je t'aime" soundtrack- haven't been able to find a release of the film down here in the antipodes!

A friend who is "in the biz" told me it was time to "get over" Death Cab.

No go. Not happening.

get over them? but I only just got into them!

gina, I know, especially the song about manhattan. god I'm so sentimental about that place, you wouldn't think it was by that I no longer live there...

and I wonder how many anglophone inhabitants of france said the expression "fairing le pont" yesterday. I know I did. Glad I'm not alone. Good luck with your demarches administratives!

anna, you can get the album on iTunes-- I just downloaded the couple of songs I wanted.

I love Roisin Murphy, but she doesn't seem to be that big over here in Ireland. Strange.
