writing into infinity

so since this is such a new blog, I'm fairly positive the only people reading it are my boyfriend and myself. But that's ok. Hi Matt! What are we doing for dinner?

So I'm trying to put together a balanced syllabus for the freshman comp course I'm teaching next semester, and of course I've been presented with the age-old question: to use or not to use a reader. It seems "The Story and its Writer" ed. Ann Charters is a popular choice; those kids end up reading the standard "Young Goodman Brown" and "Bartleby the Scrivner." Nothing wrong with the standbys, mind you; but I want to inject a little originality into this class. So I've decided to make a foray into the world of THE COURSE PACKET. Which involves finding a local copy shop, making copies of the stories I want to use, having them put the darn thing together, and then hoping I don't get sued for copyright infringement. La di dah.

Well, I'm off to have lunch with a gal pal. Yes I used that term with a straight face. More later.

"white. a blank page or canvas. his favorite. so many... possibilities."

the very first posting on my very first "blog." it should be inspirational. it should be profound. it should be... sondheim.

so after reading blogs for the past few years I've finally caved in and set up one for myself. it's gotta be more productive than reading gawker when I want to procrastinate. although it's likely I will continue to read gawker, as well as contribute to this blog, and so the procrastination is about to double. Cool. Let's see just how long I can stretch out the time between entering my Ph.D program and actually leaving it, doctorate in hand. Thank you, blogspot.
